    Riu Funana has been left behind since our last trip 3 years ago. There were less entertainment staff. And the majority of the evening shows were cancelled because of the World Cup. That’s fine if you like football for someone like me who’s not a football fan I was pretty disappointed. The accommodation is dated but but Clean and comfortable. The biggest bug bear was the fact that there are not enough sunbeds around the pool for the hotel guests at this time of year. We soon realised that we would need to get up early to do as everyone else did and reserve some beds early in the morning with towels. I absolutely hated having to do that but realised we wouldn’t get a sunbed if we didn’t. It was disappointing that the hotel allowed it so for the last two mornings of our Holiday I got up at 6 am to go and lay towels on sunbeds for my daughter and my grandson so that we would be able to enjoy a day around the pool. And unbelievably, I wasn’t the first; other people had got up earlier than that and had already reserved some beds with towels. What an absolutely ridiculous situation. It’s the kind of thing you expect in the canaries or in mainland Spain, not on islands off the coast of Africa. Really good that the hotel provided plenty of bottles of drinking water in the rooms. Also lots of choice with the food, but the main restaurant was very busy at times and queues made it feel less than premium. It is most definitely not a five star hotel. Four stars at the most. All staff were pleasant. And helpful when needed.

    For the price we paid the accommodation was ok . Bed comfy and the cleaner did a decent job. It was very noisy in the morning in the corridors staff talking banging around . The pool was good , lots of sunbed but you’d need to get up early to get one , some towels there all day and no one used them , maybe something to look in to solving. Pool bar nice fast service , the swim up bar could get a bit rowdy later in the avo. Overall a good stay as I say for the price paid . The beaches of Santa Maria are worth a visit .
