My husband and son recently stayed at the Mar Blau Hotel in Spain, and our experience was mixed. The accommodation was satisfactory overall, and the rooms were cleaned daily, although this usually took place in the late afternoon. The pillows and beds were of poor quality, and the mattress was quite hard, but we understand this may reflect the hotel’s 3‑star rating. The food, however, was disappointing. Many dishes lacked seasoning and flavour, and repetitive, though this may be because we generally prefer spicy food. The variety was limited, with a noticeable amount of processed meat rather than fresh options. Food at times seems overcooked or reheated , Surprisingly, no seafood was served at any point during our 7‑day stay, which felt unusual for a Spanish destination where we expected a better selection. No traditional dishes was served, ie paella , Breakfast was the strongest meal of the day and worked well for the kids, and the salads were fresh and enjoyable. Staff were polite and friendly, professional. Overall, the stay had positives and negatives, and while some aspects met expectations, others fell short.

The hotel staff were all great especially the ladies at reception (Shaima, Paula and Claudia). The hotel was very clean and in good condition. We had a basic room but it was good enough for me and my husband. Our room overlooked the pool, in the evenings we could hear the entertainment from our room but it ended at 11.30pm and it never stopped us from getting to sleep. The breakfast was great, plenty to choose from and all freshly made. We had dinner one evening and that was good too, plenty of choice and well cooked. We spent a couple of days by the pool, there was never a shortage of sunbeds and umbrellas. We would definitely return if we ever stay in Calella again.

Back for a second year, had some refurbishment since last year which is lovely. Bit sad not allowed any **********, inflatables etc in the pool
