My fiancé and I have just returned from 7 magical days in Garda! I have seen some great reviews on here for Doria but wanted to add a few things as I think this place may get overlooked and it absolutely should not be! Rooms Yes, the rooms are dated but I honestly felt like that added to the authentic Italian feel of the place! I absolutely loved noticing all the quirks from the past. This did not mean they were run down or dirty, the room was very clean and tidy. Our towels were replaced periodically and the beds made when we went out in the morning for breakfast. The beds were really comfy and we both slept well which is not always the case on holiday! They provided us with a small bottle of washing up liquid, tea towel and sponge which was really handy. There is a small hob if you wanted to cook and a decent size fridge. They also had plates, cups, cutlery etc. The aircon was a must, it was €60 euro for the week and if you are visiting in peak summer time I would strongly encourage you to use it!! There was also a tourist tax which you pay for at the end of your stay, this was €28 for two of us, staying 7 days. There was a hair dryer, however it did not work and was very old so if you’re particular about your hair, I’d bring your own! However I used the sun to dry my hair and sat out on the balcony enjoying a drink! We had a nice view from our balcony as we were at the front (105). It was in the shade from about 5:30pm onwards. There are only three floors of rooms (the fourth is the pool) and there is a lift however this is quite small so it may be best to ask for a room on the first floor if you struggle with stairs. Pool We visited Doria in August so it was summer holidays however we never needed to fight over sun beds which is a massive positive for us. We went in the morning and in the afternoon and there were always multiple beds free. The pool is small but again, we rarely had to share it with anyone. There is no rail to hold so you just have to be careful getting in, the steps are very grippy and there is a bit of a platform at the top as well so you could lower yourself down onto that to get in. Staff Everyone was very attentive and kind. When we arrived we were handed a free drink voucher which was a really nice treat. We also laughed as when my partner went to take the key the man handed to me and said he needed to give it to the ‘boss’! The reception is not available for a couple of hours during the day when they stop for a break but they tell you when this is on arrival. Bar We only used the bar a couple of times, purely because it was so hot so we chose to find a bar near the lake or in a more shaded part of the town however the drinks were affordable and there were lots of options. Again, staff were very friendly. Location Honestly could not have been in a better location. There is a small shop about 2 minutes down the road from then hotel that sells the basics however you may need to travel a little further for a proper supermarket. It was about 5-10 minutes walk to get to the centre of Garda which was great as it was very hot so we didn’t have to go far! You just leave the hotel, head right until you come across an underpass and then you’re there. Things to do in the area We walked to Bardolino on one of the days, we did this around 9am before it got too hot. Quite a lot of this was in the shade and it was flat the whole way, there is a dedicated path so there is no need to walk on the road. We then got the ferry back. The ferry was a really easy way to get around. We got the timetable on our first day which was helpful as we knew exactly what ticket we needed when we got to the ticket kiosk. I would recommend going about 20-25 minutes before your ferry is due to take off if you are travelling in the morning because there is only one person selling tickets and if someone takes a while it can cause quite a bit of a queue! We literally got our ticket as the ferry arrived and we arrived about 10 minutes before. Please be aware that when the ferry says it will be there at a certain time, it will be there at a certain time! They were never late and they leave seconds after they dock. Places we loved to eat/drink were - Cafe Roma - we had breakfast here every day and the staff were the loveliest people! An absolutely delicious cappuccino and lots of breakfast options. We ended up getting a brioche (croissant) most mornings as this was enough for us! Bar Cosetto - this was good for a lunchtime snack and the drinks were so cheap! The man pretty much memorised our order after the first couple of visits. Very chill and relaxing vibes and a great people watching spot! Ristorante Piccolo - we ate here three nights and we loved it. The staff were so so friendly and they knew their stuff! The food was gorgeous, especially the seafood which was obviously very fresh. Prices were generally reflective of most of the restaurants in Garda and the view was just amazing, especially as the sun was setting. Bussola - this restaurant is not on the lake but the food was amazing! The reviews do not lie, I had penne arriabata both times and it was just so tasty. They give you free flat bread which is great to dip in the sauce after! We managed to get in twice without a booking however this is not always guaranteed. The second time we were sat inside and it was a bit toasty!!

Show moreExtra charge for air con is a bit of a joke considering it should be included by default (and usually is elsewhere)
